This is the Place I Was Telling You About

We just hopped on board a righteous new collaboration with good peoples R'el Dade and Marcus Lloyd of the beautiful and wily travel blog This is the Place I Was Telling You About.

This is the Place... follows R'el and Marcus on adventures big and small -- whether it's grabbing the best cup of coffee in their city du jour or finding rare travel gems in Middle of Nowhere, USA.

For their latest adventure to Austin, TX, Whisler Civilian hooked up both R'el and Marcus with hats for their awesome Texas road trip.

Inside the Whisler Civilian Workshop at the Bok Building

Four months ago we moved into our new digs at the Bok Building in South Philadelphia. Bok is a historic 340,000 square foot former vocational school built in 1938. It's a massive, immersive art deco landmark in the heart of the East Passyunk neighborhood.

Recently, talented photographer Mike Persico stopped by the shop to see what we're up to and take some beautiful photos. Check 'em out:

Do a Mitzvah to End 2015 Right

Close out the year by supporting a cause you're passionate about. As a small, localized business we care deeply about our community. Philadelphia's public schools have a long and arduous history of being underfunded and inadequate. That's why this year, we're using a portion of our profits to support the Philadelphia Student Union. PSU is a remarkable student-led organization that champions quality and equitable education in Philadelphia. They're a truly amazing group, comprised of civic-minded citizens and students, who have been supporting Philly's public education system for the past 20 years.

Public education is a democratic right and many underprivileged communities in Philadelphia are not privy to a quality education. Just 14% of Philadelphia 4th graders can read proficiently and the city's graduation rate ranks 22 out of the 25 biggest cities in the country.

Education is the great equalizer and the ultimate way to empower citizens and pull the disenfranchised out of poverty. We love living and working in Philadelphia. But if the city is ever to become a truly world-class city, it must improve its education system. And now.

We are proud to stand with Philly Student Union for better public education.

Learn more about Philadelphia Student Union.

No matter what cause impassions you, make sure to be a mensch and do a mitzvah for the new year.

PEACE OUT, 2015 -- IT'S BEEN REAL. HAPPY 2016, Y'ALL!!!!

One year anniversary, new stockists, new space!

Whisler Civilian officially celebrated its one-year anniversary this month. It doesn't sound like much, but it's a pretty big deal for a little hat company that started in a basement.

Speaking of which, Whisler Civilian has moved operations to the newly reopened the Bok Building -- a once-shuttered vocational school in South Philadelphia that is being developed as a hub of creative and entrepreneurial ventures. We'll say this: It's the shit.

We'll be posting photos soon once the space is all cleaned up and ready to show off.

Lastly, we're now stocked at a few new shops across the country. If you're located in Bismarck, ND, Nashville or Franklin, TN, you can now try on a Whisler Civilian hat yourself. Stop by these new friendly stockists:
